Emma Major

BSc Physiotherapy, MCSP, YAP 200 Hour Yoga Teacher, HCPC Registered

My name is Emma and I am a mum of three girls, a respiratory physiotherapist and a yoga teacher.  I am passionate about practising and teaching yoga and celebrating the health benefits that yoga can create.

I graduated with a degree in physiotherapy in 2005, specialising in respiratory care and lung health in 2007 and specifically in Cystic Fibrosis and chronic lung disease management in 2008.  I have a deep understanding of the anatomy and physiology of the breath and the importance of effective breathing on our general physical and mental health, and vice versa.  Breathing well is an essential part of optimising our health and wellbeing.

I have been practising yoga for about 12 years, after joining a friend at a class, and haven’t looked back. I completed my 200 hour yoga teacher training in 2021 with Laura Green Yoga and am so excited to continue my journey as a yoga teacher.

For me, yoga has helped to ground me in the present moment, which in today’s busy world is so important when we often feel that we must constantly rush and look ahead.  Yoga has also allowed me to develop a real connection to, and understanding of, my own body.

Over the years I have studied and practised many different styles of yoga, including vinyasa flow, hatha, yin, ashtanga, chair and restorative and love combining these with my background in respiratory physiotherapy to optimise health by reconnecting the breath and body.

My teaching style is fun yet gentle, I will challenge you to explore what your body is capable of while also listening to what it is asking of you in that moment.  I love to introduce my knowledge of anatomy and the amazing human body within my classes, as well as creating a space for my students to make quality time for themselves.  Yoga really is for everyone and every-body and my classes embrace this philosophy.

I would love to see you in class!

My Story

Emma Major Yoga began in 2021.

Having practised yoga regularly since 2010, and after attending a Yoga Immersion Course with Laura Green Yoga in 2019, I decided that I wanted to deepen my understanding and appreciation of the incredible, inspiring and ancient practice of yoga.

After becoming pregnant with my 3rd daughter at the start of 2020, I decided it was now or never, and signed up for my yoga teacher training journey, again with the fantastic Laura Green Yoga.

Who knew that a global pandemic would come along and change the course of my pregnancy and my yoga teacher training journey!

However, despite all of this, in March 2021, when my little girl was 5 months old, I started my teacher training, first online and then finally in person.

It was an incredible 9 months. I met the most amazing people who are now my yoga tribe, cheerleaders and support system. I learned so much, not just about the rich history of yoga, the inspiring philosophy that underpins it and how to deliver thoughtful and engaging class. I also learned a huge amount about myself and how I interact with the world around me.

“Yoga does not just change the way we see things, it transforms the person who sees.”

I am so excited to see what is next on my yoga teacher journey and I would love for you to be a part of it!
